Types of Field Inspections

DRIVE-BY INSPECTIONS

These are very easy. All you do is drive by the property. Take a photo from your car, and make a visual inspection from your car. Fill out the 5 minute report given to you and you will make anywhere from $7-$14 per inspection.  Establish a route when you have 10-15 requests, plan your day accordingly.  You should be able to do a dozen or more in a morning to early after noon.  Then go to Starbucks and if your computer savvy you can send them to the company via your wireless connection and enjoy your favorite beverage.

PHOTO ONLY INSPECTIONS

This type of inspection requires photos and a brief description of the property or piece of collateral. A completion date will also accompany the inspection. These are very easy and very common. Pay is usually between $8 and $25. Some companies will have a certain time of day that they want the photos or interviews done.  You will find that these are some of the first types of inspections that you will probably be offered. DON’T GET DISCOURAGED, the company is giving you an inspection which they know is easy to do and it is a way to ease you into more complex and better paying inspections.

PROPERTY INSPECTIONS

These property inspections will require you to indicate the square footage of the property, as well as reporting on the condition of the property. In the report you will  focus on what if any hazardous conditions there may be, what is the property area like (is it a stable, deteriorating, residential or commercial, urban or rural), roof conditions, square footage, exterior condition, and includes photos. These pay in the range of $25 to $45. Make sure when you are taking the photos to get a clear angle of the property and focus on the main components of the property. This inspection may require you to measure the dimensions of the property.

COLLATERAL INSPECTIONS

These are very simple and quick. You are hired to inspect a piece of equipment (it could be anything) for the company that is leasing it out. The leasing companies want to make sure that whatever they have leased is still there and want to see what shape it is in. You will have to take a few pictures (they will tell you what they want) and fill out a short report, usually only 5 to 10 minutes, and should get paid anywhere from $25 to $40.

INSURANCE INSPECTIONS

These inspections are very similar to the general property type inspection. The difference is that most of the time an insurance company will request them. Property insurers need accurate, reliable and timely information. Insurance inspections may include: Exterior photos, interior photos, a condition checklist, specific features verified, damage or needed repair photos, other custom options.  You may also be required to measure the property and do a diagram. These inspections should take about 10 to 15 minutes to complete and the pay is usually $25 to $45.
